The Renaissance Society presents "Tendered," a solo exhibition by Karimah Ashadu, focusing on her moving-image practice. Ashadu's work investigates how bodies are shaped, disciplined, and understood within contemporary labor and value systems, particularly in West Africa. She creates intimate, long-term engagements with individuals in informal economies, exploring how aspirations are managed amidst material limitations. The exhibition features the U.S. debut of "MUSCLE," a new moving-image installation. This work examines bodybuilders training in Lagos's slums, positioning bodybuilding as a form of exertion, labor, investment, and self-creation. "MUSCLE" was co-commissioned by the Renaissanc
